With its consistent regeneration in every resort, finding accommodation in the Algarve for that longed for summer holiday seems to get more and more difficult every year.

Portugal has long been a favourite destination with the Brits but with its 300 days of sunshine every year, creamy sands and clear blue waters, it should come as no surprise that the Algarve coast continues to attract thousands of us every year.

Location

Its long history as a host for holiday makers perhaps means that the Algarve has a little more experience in knowing what to offer its guests. You’ll find everything here from five star accommodation to more budget conscious bed and breakfasts. The Club Praia Vau Aparthotel is a good three star resort that comes in on budget but still has plenty to offer its guests.

Praia do Vau tends to get very busy with tourists for much of the year. Praia do Vau beach is on the Western side of Praia da Rocha and Portimao, both of which are very popular tourist destinations in the Algarve.The complex is centrally located with public transport regularly running to the nearby marina of Portimao and the nearby town of Praia da Rocha – though at just 1.5 miles away, this can also make for a pleasant walk.

Facilities

The apartments are large and comfortable and overlook the pool area that is also surrounded by shade-providing palms.

A studio sleeps two people, apartments sleep four people but you can also ask for extra beds. All rooms have an en-suite bathroom/shower and WC, as well as a television, telephone, fridge and a microwave, juicer, toaster, coffee machine and hair dryer can also be arranged for your stay.

With a 24 hour reception desk, the needs of all guests are met by the friendly staff and the laundry service is a definite bonus. There is a swimming pool for adults and one for children too and there is a restaurant on site and a bar which is a popular meeting place for fellow guests to mingle.

Things To Do Nearby

Portimao is just a short distance away from the Club Praia Vau and with its long history and contemporary shopping opportunities, it is another example of how the Algarve combines the old with the new. Portimao offers a number of boat excursions which include sightseeing along the stunning Algarve coast, caving expeditions and dolphin spotting.

Given the number of tourists it seems to receive, many comment on how Portimao still somehow feels more traditional than other Algarve regions. The Praia do Vau beach is easily accessible and whilst there are a number of watersports you can take part in, you’re probably more likely to find people simply soaking up the sun, sea and sand with a sunbed and shade for hire. Praia da Rocha, as one of the Algarves longest and most significant beaches is more likely to please those who enjoy a variety of activities. Towards the west of the Praia do Vau is Praia do Alemao which has more caves to explore and rock pools to observe some of its more permanent maritime residents.

For some people, Club Praia Vau may simply be a place to sleep – particularly if you intend to be out and about for most of the day; perhaps taking advantage of the 25 golf courses in the Algarve region of Portugal, several of which can be found near Portimao including the Penina Championship Golf Course, or perhaps venturing out to Praia da Rocha to take advantages of the bars, clubs and casinos it has to offer. The Algarve region is renowned for being family friendly and Club Praia Vau and its sister complex Club Praia Do Vau are both ideally located for a number of day excursions including the Atlantic Water Park for some fun on the slides and for those who want to venture a little further afield, the Lagos Zoo makes for an excellent day out for people young and old.

The reviews of some of Club Praia Vau’s previous guests are certainly worthy of a read and it is important to research any holiday accommodation before you make a reservation, especially if it is done online. One reviewer from London wrote: “We went for a 5 day holiday and we really enjoyed our stay there”. A short conclusion perhaps, but an honest one nonetheless.
