The Albufeira resort is one of the most popular of the Algarve resorts, and it has a number of high quality accommodations available – hotels, apartments and self-catering villas to suit all needs and budgets. The Oceanus Hotel Albufeira is a great example of the smaller and family-friendly of the local tourist accommodations – it is a three star hotel with sixty one guest rooms. It’s an aparthotel, friendly and welcoming and well equipped with everything you need for an enjoyable stay. The hotel is designed traditionally and with family groups in mind and is only a short transfer from the Algarve airport.

The apartments sleep up to four people each, with a folding sofa bed available and infant/baby cots available too if required. Each room is nicely decorated in soft, modern and muted tones, with modern light fittings and equipment such as tea/coffee making facilities, toaster, hairdryer etc.

What are the facilities like?

Oceanus HotelThere’s a good range of things on offer in the Oceanus Hotel Portugal including two swimming pools – outdoor and indoor. There is also an on-site restaurant offering a good range of Portuguese, Algarve, international, childrens’ and vegetarian meal options to suit all tastes.

There is a comfortable and smart bar to enjoy leisurely evening drinks as well as a snack bar where you can stock up on the essentials like ice-cream, drinks and sweets. Of course you can also find the regular hotel amenities like a manned reception area, a newspaper kiosk, a foreign currency exchange and newspapers available to order. Guests can also relax in the games room or watch TV in the dedicated lounge space. There are also private carparking facilities and a roof terrace for private relaxation.

Oceanus HotelThe nearest beach to the Oceanus Hotel Albufeira is Olhos D’Agua – accessible by foot – and great for family groups particularly as it’s manned in high season by lifeguards, so parents can relax knowing that their kids are having fun in safety. Furthermore, there’s a wide range of local cafes, varied bars, welcoming restaurants and an excellent nightlife to be found too – in general the Albufeira resort is very family friendly and has a pleasant and convivial atmosphere.

A supermarket is located close to the Oceanus Hotel, useful for stocking up for the family, and there’s a good range of public transport facilities too – buses and taxis are available just near to the hotel resort. Of course you’re near to Albufeira and the glamourous ‘strip’ too – only five minutes away. For golf lovers, the Vilamoura Marina offers superior golfing facilities in glorious Algarve surroundings only fifteen minutes away. You could also try going further afield during your holiday and explore the wider Algarve and surrounding areas – there’s a station 7km away and you could also hire a private car for the day to get around – or simply take a bus. For more local and leisurely exploration, why not hire a bicycle, or even boat to really see the area in style! Or you could even go on a horse ride – the Algarve is well set up for these type of sports activities.

One reviewer said it was excellent for a three star accommodation, and said that the rooms were large and roomy with well proportioned bedrooms and a generous terrace. The kitchen was also felt to be well stocked with everything the family needed.

Other reviewers noted that the Oceanus was particularly good for families, although there was a bar nearby which disturbed one reviewer at night. Another guest appreciated the pull out sofa bed for extra sleeping space and many commented on the friendly and helpful hotel staff. Other guests said that they thought the resort was perfect for quieter holidays, although those looking for lively nightlife holidays might prefer to stay a little closer to the strip – and other reviewers said that there were some great restaurants nearby which they’d particularly enjoyed.

Generally all felt that the Algarve was a place to be re-visited, and that this hotel was a good contender for visiting families and small groups.
