It’s also very close to the beach, so is ideal for families looking for a beach holiday with access to the town attractions.

The Algarve airport is also an easy transfer away – just over an hour by car, and there are other Algarve resorts in the nearby area which are worth a visit by hire car. There’s also good public transport links from Lagos town with various buses, taxis and train options for getting about the area.

Facilities

The Montemar Hotel in Lagos is a traditional hotel, but with all the benefits of being a modern build as it’s been extensively modernised and renovated in recent years.

It offers comfortable and unfussy accommodation for Algarve visitors, and puts a strong emphasis on service. A three star hotel, there are many excellent offers for visitors who are willing to book in advance. The hotel has modern guestrooms which are comfortable and suitably equipped for holidaymakers. Each room has an ensuite bathroom and air-conditioning, a television, phone and balcony terrace, with a view of Lagos resort. There are also safes within the rooms, and each one is decorated in a simple and traditional Algarve style, with cool Mediterranean colours.

The hotel on site facilities include terraces, and watersport providers nearby offering water skiing, jet skiing, diving, sailing and windsurfing. There is also golf nearby – and the Algarve is famous for its golf courses! There is a buffet breakfast and a local restaurant very close by. The hotel reception is manned around the clock by multi lingual and friendly staff, and there is also 24 hour room service. Parking is free in the hotel garage for guests who want to organise hire cars and there are safes for valuables. Internet access is provided via a public lobby computer and there are other guest facilities such as laundry.

Things To Do Nearby

Guests will find that there’s plenty to entertain and occupy them at the Montemar Lagos. The Pinhao beach is only 800 metres walk away from the hotel, and it’s one of the most lovely on the Algarve.

There is a shopping centre also close by with a good range of shops selling local Algarve specialities and souvenirs, as well as supermarkets and cafes for stocking up on food and drink essentials. The Lagos resort has its own marina which is very popular with tourists and there are lots of other attractions such as sports courts, family attractions such as zoomarines, go karting and family water parks, and there are parks and playgrounds to enjoy too.

Several reviewers said that Montemar Lagos was ideal for those seeking town centre access as it was close to all the bars and restaurants and also very close to the beach. They found the parking useful for organising car hire and visiting other parts of the Algarve.

The hotel rooms were rated well, being comfortable if basic, and nicely designed and very clean. The hotel breakfast scored highly with good basic options and plentiful food which didn’t run out for the late arrivers! The staff were also rated very highly for being friendly and helpful and the maid service kept the hotel very clean, with towels being changed several times every week. The only downside for some people was the lack of swimming pool, but generally it was felt that the nearby beach and town attractions more than compensated for this.
