Lagos is a small town, with around 18,000 residents. The climate is mild along the Algarve coast, and attracts golfers all year round. Inland from Lagos, and only a short drive from the coast, tourists can find themselves in rural villages, untouched by tourism. North of Lagos lies the original capital of Portugal, Silves, which has a stunning Moorish castle. The Southwest Natural Park, Costa Sudoeste Alentejana e Vicentina is a protected landscape area that is well worth a visit.
Location
Lagos is only 90 kilometres from Algarve’s Faro Airport and lies East of the larger resort of Portimao. Its beautiful beaches include Praiede Porto Mos and Baia da Maia Praia, both within walking distance of the Dom Manuel Hotel. Other excellent beaches in Lagos include Praia de Camillo and Praia D’Ana. The Algarve’s stunning coastline and sandy beaches are instantly recognisable with rocky outcrops jutting into the sea as well as cliff tops dominating the scenery. Inland, the many quaint villages and surrounding land are predominantly agricultural.

The Dom Manuel is positioned close to the centre of Lagos, yet in a quiet area away from the main road. The hotel is a great base for discovering the beautiful area around Lagos and further afield in the Algarve. Close by, within Lagos, there are several interesting churches, museums and the city walls, providing excellent views across the city towards the ocean and magnificent Sierra de Monchique Mountain Range. The hotel is a short 1 km stroll away from the nearest beach, bars, restaurants and shops.
The hotel is traditional in architectural style. This charming boutique style resort includes period style furnishings which add to its attractive character. There is a secluded swimming pool area which leads to the breakfast room with quiet terrace, where you can enjoy your meal.
The terraces have well kept flower beds and offer a relaxing space in which to enjoy the surroundings. There are 35 rooms with twin or double beds. Each room has its own balcony, satellite TV, phone, fridge, hair dryer and air conditioning. The hotel facilities include a restaurant which serves continental breakfast, sauna and whirlpool bath, Turkish bath, outdoor swimming pool, 24 hour reception area, money exchange and safety deposit boxes.

Ideally situated as a base for the golfing enthusiast, the Dom Manuel Hotel Lagos in the Algarve is a 5 minute drive from both the Palmeres Golf Course and Boavista Golf Course. Slightly further afield is the Alto Golf Course which is 20km away, and the Parque da Floresta Golf Course, only 12 km away.
There are numerous coach or boat trips on offer, travelling from Lagos or nearby Portimao, including boat trips to many beaches along the Algarve coast line, specialist dolphin watch trips and beach barbecues. Lagos itself has much evidence of its history still in tact, including its many decorative churches, and the Slave Market which is now a centre for art and crafts. Many of the beaches offer a vast selection of water sports including water skiing, windsurfing and paragliding.
To make the most of your stay in the Algarve, a hire car is a must, enabling you to explore the surrounding area, including other beach resorts and facilities, and lovely inland countryside with picnic opportunities around every corner. Portugal’s rugged terrain, and the Algarve’s stunning views and rocky mountains make it a popular area for walking holidays.

Visitors to the Dom Manuel Hotel Lagos have enjoyed the spacious rooms and good quality service from the staff. Sheets and towels are changed on a daily basis and the rooms are thoroughly cleaned.
Guests have found the swimming pool to be on the small side, with sun beds occupied quite early in the morning. However, the majority of guests have been more than happy with the close location of the beaches, and there are a few restaurants within 2 minutes walk of the hotel.
The hotel bar is small but friendly, and a great place to enjoy a drink in the evening. The town has a great deal of traditional charm, with 2 squares and enough restaurants to satisfy every culinary preference. This is a place for people who want to relax in a quiet environment, and who are happy with the basic facilities offered by a small hotel.
