Hotel Monaco Faro
The Hotel Monaco Faro is a popular, modern resort in Faro, Portugal. Many of the hotels in Portugal have an old fashioned, rural charm. However, Hotel Monaco stands out from the rest by having a very different, clean, zesty city vibe.
Getting to and from the airport is a breeze here and the staff cannot help enough, offering directions to places of interest and laying on a delicious buffet breakfast every morning. Beautifully designed modern furniture, highly polished marble floors, attentive staff and a location which is not too far from the beach all make this hotel a great place to stay in the Algarve.
It should also be noted that the words ‘Hotel’ and ‘Monaco’ often switch places in some of the advertising literature for the hotel. So, it is also often called Monaco Hotel Faro. This could cause confusion for some but this is the only hotel in the area bearing this name.
In Faro you get a lot of services and facilities for your three stars and you might find that if you compare a three star hotel in the Algarve to a three star hotel in the UK the hospitality in the Algarve unfortunately out matches our home team. There is an air of professional, dedicated service at this hotel which is truly wonderful and the facilities and services are particularly appreciated in customer reviews.

The outdoor pool at the Hotel Monaco is open during the summer months and is the perfect place to lounge and enjoy a drink from the poolside snack and drinks bar.
After a dip in the cool water, you could enjoy a meal in the restaurant which offers a la carte food, with both native Algarve specialities and international fare. Then there’s the comfortable, trendy lounge bar for a glass of wine or cocktail and the city available to explore as Hotel Monaco is set in the centre of Faro. It is also just 7 kilometres away from the Algarve Stadium and offers 64 guest rooms laid out over 4 different floors of the tall, imposing building.
The reception in the hotel lobby is open day and night meaning you can return to the hotel any time you like and there is also a currency exchange service for turning those British pounds into Euros.
You can store your bicycle on the premises, or you can even rent one from the bicycle cellar which is a great way to get around Faro. The closest beach is just 5 kilometres from Hotel Monaco and transport links in the area are excellent.
You can stay in touch with friends and relatives or business partners easily through the hotel’s WLAN internet access but there is a small fee associated with this. However, car parking is absolutely free of charge and if you need clothes laundered you can use the hotel laundry service for this too! All rooms have the extras you’d expect in an Algarve hotel, including: a hairdryer, cable television, mini bar, direct dial telephone and a safe to store your valuable possessions. If you’re worn out after a long day exploring Faro, but are not tired enough to sleep you can take in a movie for free too, on your guest room television. Room service is also available.
Customer Thoughts
Review sites on the internet can be quite helpful in determining which Algarve hotel to choose for your stay. Comments which relate to this hotel are positive, largely due to the refurbishment which was undertaken several years ago. These changes brought cutting edge design and modern fittings to this well run establishment. Praise in reviews centres on the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff and the ease with which a visitor can reach the airport and other places in the Algarve.
The only criticisms we found were of the neutral decor in many of the guestrooms. Another criticism was that the shuttle bus to the closest Algarve airport (which is free to hotel visitors) only operates between 9am and 5pm, but most customers are unlikely to expect otherwise. Free transport in the form of a shuttle bus also goes into Faro town, providing visitors with a speedy way to get out there and explore.
If not always having access to free transport and neutral decorations were the least favoured things about the hotel, we can only say that it comes highly recommended! Many customers also expressed that it is ideal for onward travel because it is so well connected to the airport and other travel links. Golf lovers could enjoy a special game by visiting the nearest course which is 15 kilometres from the hotel. Overall, this is a great hotel for anyone visiting the Algarve and reviews suggest that the quality of the hotel is outstanding within its price range
