The Faro Hotel in the Algarve is perhaps a little too aptly named because it is quite simply a 4 star Hotel in Faro.

To some extent, it’s a miracle that online searches do create results for the hotel and don’t just find information on all the other places to stay in the area. It is located on the marina which has awe inspiring views, especially at dawn and dusk when the Algarve sun glimmers those orange and red rays across the water. There are many of the major attractions which the Algarve has to offer nearby too, including the beautiful Bivar Gardens and Bairro Ribeirinho both of which draw thousands of tourists to the Algarve every year. The Bivar Gardens is home to the Chapel of Bones and contains the skeletons of over 1000 monks, whilst the Bairro Ribeirinho is part of the old town of Faro.

There is further confusion over the hotel’s vague name because it is also known as ‘Hotel del Faro’ and ‘El Faro Hotel’ by both locals and some travel companies. Once you’ve got past the peculiarities of its name it is an outstanding resort, situated only 800 metres from Faro train station. From there you can get trains to other places of interest in the Algarve, but why would you want to?

Hotel del FaroBairro Ribeirinho has cobbled streets, small traditional businesses and a wealth of interesting history is saturated in to the old city walls. Beyond this is the new town, boasting neo-classical architecture and modern shops and cafes. The Faro Castle is also well worth a visit and one of the most interesting castles in Portugal. Heading down coast on one of the many transport links in the area, you can visit the sandy beaches of Praia Da Luz or go and check out the Portugal nightlife in Albufeira which is young, lively and full of night clubs.

The airport is just 5 kilometres away from Faro Hotel which makes getting to and from it easy. Faro Hotel also has an effortlessly stylish, contemporary decor. There’s a restaurant for delicious sit-down meals, a cafe for quick bites and a bar for those all important holiday drinks.

El Faro HotelAs a 4 star hotel there are many facilities and services available at this Algarve resort which you might not find at others. There is a 24 hour reception, a supermarket for those little essentials and even a small casino. For business travellers there are conference facilities available and every guestroom has a safe for storing important travel documents and valuables. If you need a suit pressed or a dress washing that’s no trouble because there are laundry services at the hotel. If you are worried about a potential allergic reaction or other health issues medical assistance is also available.

As we’ve said, the Faro Hotel goes beyond the expectations you might have of most hotels in the Algarve. If you’d like to get around the city on bicycle, for example, you can hire one from the hotel and if you need some extra money for treats on your adventures there is no problem there, because there is an in-house currency exchange too! Even parking is not a problem at the Hotel Faro as there are spots allocated for hotel guests.

All of the guestrooms are well equipped with private bathrooms, a hairdryer, a mini bar, radio and telephone and a satellite television. You can access the internet (Wifi) from your room and all guest rooms have a fridge and air conditioning.

What have previous guests said?

Hotel in FaroLooking online at reviews for this Algarve hotel, there are hundreds of pleased visitors. One previous customer likened the modern decor of the building to premium ‘Ikea’ furniture and said that the staff were both friendly and happy to answer questions and meet her requests. She loved how close the hotel was to the shops and the views of the marina.

Another visitor said the hotel was ‘outstanding’ and that he thoroughly enjoyed breakfast in the mornings. Upon complaining that his room didn’t have a safe, he says that he was immediately offered either another room (with a safe) or two free bottles of wine. He emphasised the excellent service and the modern look of the hotel.

Criticisms included the fact that the hotel charges for parking, but this is because only a select few customers require this service. Most hotels in the Algarve think it is fairer to make those who use specific services pay, than to make them free for everyone and recoup expenses from all customers as part of room fees. One previous customer who has travelled extensively in the Algarve said that the rooms were very comfortable with wood floors, spacious bathrooms and luxurious beds and that he would certainly recommend the hotel to friends.
