The Dom Bernado Faro is an excellent 3 star resort in the Algarve. Faro is famous for its interesting history, excellent architecture and many attractions. Dom Bernado is close to most of them.

The hotel is also renowned in the area for offering spacious rooms and very friendly service. It’s a Best Western branded hotel, so if you know and like the company you can rest assured that you’ll be treated just as well as you would in any of its many other international hotels. There’s free car parking near and around the hotel which means you can easily hire a car from an Algarve car hire company to explore everything that Faro has to offer. The facilities at the hotel are also up-to-date and there’s an array of extra services and activities on offer.

As one of the few hotels online which is actually described as ‘gay friendly’ everyone who walks through the hotel’s doors, regardless of their age, gender, sexuality or race will be treated fairly and equally. As such, you can rest assured that your trip to Portugal will be a pleasant one at the Dom Bernado Faro. The hotel’s elevator also makes it easier to come and stay if you use a wheelchair or have walking difficulties.

There are 43 guest rooms at the hotel, all of which have a nice, simple decor and many of the facilities you’d expect from a 3 star establishment. Guests can also play pool in the bar area and enjoy games of billiards with other holidaymakers. The hotel is open 24 hours a day, so you can stay out and party at the Algarve nightspots all night if you like. Simply come back to your room at a time which suits you.

The breakfast buffet is complimentary every morning and a great way to start your day but there are many cafes and restaurants in Faro too, which serve food from Portugal and the rest of the world. The location of this Algarve hotel is its biggest selling point and from here you can visit both the old and new towns of Faro.

Facilities

The Best Western brand has hotels across the Algarve and all of them have the great standard features in their guestrooms. These include: Laundry and Ironing Services upon request, Fax and Photocopying Services for business visitors, a safety deposit box in every room for storing valuables, and luggage storage.

There isn’t much more that you could need. Add to these facilities the bar with pool tables, and the fact that you’re in the centre of Faro with the beach within walking distance and you’re in for a treat if you choose to stay at this hotel.

What have previous customers said?

A number of customers who commented about the Dom Bernado Hotel online are regular visitors to the Algarve and they like the hotel because of its simplicity, cleanliness and efficient service. Many previous visitors also said that a benefit to staying at the hotel is the location, being close to the beach and having sea views from some rooms, whilst the other rooms are city-facing.

‘Clean’ and ‘adequate’ were words frequently used in reviews and highlighted that any queries made by customers were quickly resolved and well handled by the staff. Many people also noted that there is no restaurant at this hotel, but that there are a number of very good ones within walking distance and that staff would be willing to provide advice and directions if they were asked. One prior customer said that they turned down breakfast because they had to catch a plane out of the Algarve very early the next morning. In response, the staff very helpfully arranged for a taxi to collect them and take them to the airport.

Criticisms included the fact that there was no kettle in the room, but the customer asked for one at reception and was given one. Many hotels in the Algarve don’t provide tea and coffee making facilities in rooms as this is more of a Continental and English tradition, although the number of hotels choosing to do this is rising. Another criticism was that one member of staff didn’t smile much, but all hotels are staffed by people with a range of personalities and the staff member in question was not rude or unaccommodating.

The overall feel of this hotel from reviews, is that whilst it is by no means the best hotel which the Algarve has to offer, it is in a good location for tourism, has friendly staff that work hard and care about their job and is entirely adequate. As an affordable, 3 star Algarve hotel, having rooms with sea views and delicious breakfast buffets (on the house!), it’s an absolute bargain.
