For self-catering trips to the Algarve, it might be hard to beat the Vila Gaivota Carvoeiro. Vila Gaivota Algarve is a short drive from the larger resort of Lagos and also near to Portimo where you can enjoy long beaches and various tourist attractions.

Carvoeiro is a truly beautiful part of Portugal and the Caneiros beach is just 300 metres from Vila Gaivota. If you’re looking for somewhere to stay in Portugal which offers impressive views, self-sufficient living and the convenience of nearby facilities, the Vila Gaivota may be the perfect place for your stay. There seem to be more hotels than holiday apartments in the Algarve, but it can be lovely to relax with family and friends, eat at times that suit you and enjoy the freedom that come with apartment living.

The Vila Gaivota Algarve has a number of facilities at its apartment complex, these include a bar and restaurant which are perfect for when you don’t have the time or inclination to cook. You can catch some rays beside the outdoor pool on the communal terrace whilst the kids splash each other in the children’s pool or lie on a sun lounger and get a tan.

There’s a play area for children to have fun and a games room too, then there’s the pool table and access to a variety of exciting activities. Many of us choose the Algarve over other holiday destinations because we’re looking for fun, excitement and adventure. You can play tennis, go windsurfing or even hire a bike and go cycling whilst staying at the Vila Gaivota. If you feel like braving those bright blue ocean waves you can go fishing and have your catch for supper (after all this is self-catering!) If none of that appeals to you what about a spot of horse riding or a day sea diving? All of these activities can be booked at independent businesses nearby.

Facilities

Vila Gaivota AlgarveWhen you’re tired out from a day exploring the Algarve you will be pleased to know that all your valuables were kept safe in the secure box included in all apartments. Apartments in the Algarve vary in style and they aren’t often as feature-packed as the Vila Gaivota rooms. Here there are loads of essential features that some other hotels and holiday apartments overlook. Vila Gaivota apartments feature comfortable bedrooms and clean bathrooms, which all have a hairdryer. There is also a kitchen in each apartment with an oven, fridge, microwave and those all important tea and coffee making facilities!

You’d be surprised how many Algarve hotels don’t provide a kettle, because it’s really more of a British and Continental trend. You’ll also find a washing machine, perfect for washing sand off clothes along with an iron and ironing board. After all, you’ll want to look your best when you’re exploring the town. Apartments also have a satellite television, a telephone and you can spend hours standing on your own private terrace watching the sun rising or setting in the cloudless sky.

Business Guests

A number of business visitors choose to stay in apartments instead of hotels, especially if they’re travelling to the Algarve with a team of co-workers. In cases like this, the Vila Gaivota team offers some great facilities, including computer rental, additional business services and extra car parking.

What have previous guests said?

Vila Gaivota CarvoeiroThere is something special about Vila Gaivota. It’s a rather remote area and is 2 miles from Ferragudo but this adds to the tranquillity and sense of relaxation.

One comment on a review site praised the apartment describing it as slightly ‘tired’ but adding that it was ‘inexpensive’ and also that for very little money they had a huge veranda (35 metres) with absolutely priceless views of the ocean. The ‘idyllic location’ was mentioned frequently by visitors and many travellers recommend hiring a rental car.

Another previous visitor complimented the food and service at the restaurant and described it as tasty and well presented. The receptionists were also lauded for being friendly and approachable. One criticism is that there are not a lot of businesses nearby and that there’s also nowhere to exchange GBP for Euros nearby either, meaning that visitors must either take a lot of Euros with them or drive to banks.

The closest currency exchange which was found by one customer was a bank located 15 miles away from Vila Gaivota. Another criticism was of the firmness of the beds which were described as uncomfortably hard, but when the couple complained about this at reception they were given what the visitor described as ‘mattress toppers.’ These solved the problem. Positive thoughts seem to focus on the beautiful views, the simple village life in Ferragudo which is typical of coastal Algarve towns and the space and fresh air which Vila Gaivota offers.
