If you are visiting the Algarve in Portugal for the first time, be prepared for a treat.

Rooms

The Sofitel Thalassa Vilalara Hotel in the Algarve is a luxurious complex, rated five stars – and with a famous Thalasso spa included in its attractions. The hotel is set within beautiful gardens and has 131 suites decorated in a simple and modern scheme of green, blue and yellow with pale oak furniture.

Each suite has a fully furnished balcony with a view of the gardens, and there is air conditioning, a mini bar, internet connection, a separate sitting area, phone, refrigerator and minibar. The bathroom is stocked with designer toiletries and bathrobes, and there is a hairdryer, makeup mirror and bidet. A maid and turn-down service is available daily.

Facilities

The Sofitel Thalassa Vilalara Hotel is famous for its Thalassotherapy centre, which is known throughout the Algarve. Facilities are lavish and plentiful. There are five swimming pools on site, and one of them is heated year round. Guests can also take advantage of a private and attractive Algarve beach, and the hotel boasts beautiful and well tended gardens.

Guests will receive a complimentary breakfast every morning in the onsite restaurant. There are also several food options on site, including a gastronomic restaurant with Algarve, Mediterranean and international dishes, a diet restaurant with light meals, a poolside restaurant serving grilled food and buffets, and three bars – a cocktail bar open until midnight, a thalasso bar with fresh juices and teas and a poolside bar with drinks and snacks.

Other facilities on the hotel site include a concierge desk, fully manned with multilingual staff, a games room with billiards, television and other games, a restaurant and bar/lounge, free parking and a car hire service. There is also a garage for guests bringing their own cars, room service, internet access and barbeque facilities. Guests can visit the onsite hair salon and news-stand and there are also facilities such as babysitting, laundry, dry cleaning and airport transfers.

There are many things to do on site at the Sofitel Thalassa Vilalara Hotel, and guests may choose to spend a relaxing holiday within the hotel grounds alone. The Hotel Sofitel offers a busy programme of activities and Algarve excursions which include live evening entertainment and games, day trips and sports. There is of course a fantastic relaxation programme, including a wide range of spa treatments on offer – massages, facials, relaxing wraps, stone therapy, sports massage and shiatsu.

Additionally, special treatments such as reflexology, shiatsu, aromatherapy, reiki and osteopathy are available, as well as the fantastic spa baths for hydrotherapy treatments such as seaweed wraps and underwater massages. There is also a sauna, a Turkish bath, a solarium. and after all the pampering, an onsite gift shop to browse through. Active visitors will enjoy the fitness centre which is fully equipped with the latest kit, 4 tennis courts with instructors on hand, aerobics and aqua classes and other instructor led fitness sessions.

Other recreational activities include water sports available at the beach – including windsurfing, a golf course (naturally – this is the Algarve after all!) – with several ranges nearby, fishing nearby and horse riding.
