Location
The Alvor resort experiences some of the finest weather conditions in Portugal, including 3,000 hours of sunshine annually and summer temperatures in excess of 30 Celsius. The warm weather is classified as Mediterranean despite the fact that the Algarve runs alongside the Atlantic ocean.
Situated 4 kilometres from the town of Portimão, which offers an excellent night scene, and 3 kilometres from Praia da Rocha and Praia da Vau, the Alvor resort is essentially an oasis of tranquillity in a region dominated by the tourist industry. Faro Airport is just over an hour away by car. Dunas do Alvor Apartments is situated within walking distance of all that Alvor has to offer, including its many restaurants, bars and kilometres of golden sandy shores.
Rooms
The Dunas do Alvor Apartments in the Alvor resort have been recently refurbished, and one bedroom apartments are both spacious and fully furnished.
The rooms are clean and tidy and comprise twin beds (two single), bathroom with bath, shower, sink and bidet, kitchenette with electric burner, toaster and fridge, and a large open plan living and dining area. All the apartments feature a balcony, some of which offer sea views, and include a television, sofa-bed and tiled floors. The Dunas do Alvor Apartments offer a high standard of accommodation in comparison to many other hotels along Portugal’s Algarve. Indeed, visitors to Alvor will be happy with their stay at the hotel.
Facilities
The Dunas do Alvor Apartments offer a range of services and facilities that are popular amongst young couples and families staying in the quiet Alvor resort. A large swimming pool, complete with loungers and padded mats, is a feature of the hotel and towels go down from about 9:00am, so grab your place in the sun early!
There is also a restaurant and bar at the hotel on the ground floor, which is especially suited for poolside sunbathers. Additional facilities include a large reception with ramp access for disabled guests and 2 internet ports (charged by the minute). The Dunas do Alvor Apartments offer guests a pleasant yet lively stay in one of Portugal’s most serene coastal towns.
Things to do in Alvor
Visitors travel to the Alvor resort mainly because of its quiet and relaxing appeal. Indeed, unlike the more touristy destinations of Portimão and Praia da Rocha, which are within travelling distance of Alvor and are well worth a visit for the Casino, nightclubs, bars, restaurants and beaches, Alvor has a much slower pace that is punctuated by outstanding natural beauty.
Alvor’s golden sands back against a range of dunes, cliffs and natural grottos, and are not simply a place to bronze bodies in the Mediterranean sunshine. Moreover, the resort offers many other activities such as walking, cycling, golf, horse riding and water sports including scuba diving, snorkelling, windsurfing and jet-skiing. Renowned for its local fish and seafood dishes, Alvor also offers live music entertainment in its various restaurants and bars. Guests of all ages will enjoy their stay at the Dunas do Alvor Apartments, not least because of its close proximity to the beach and other attractions, but because Alvor is one of Portugal’s most beautiful and picturesque places.
What have previous guests said?
The majority of guests staying at the Dunas do Alvor Apartments who have left feedback on the hotel have been extremely positive. In general, the apartments were described as appropriately furnished (although some were unhappy at the lack of a microwave in the kitchen), clean and tidy with regular maid service.
The disabled access is much better than in other hotels in this part of Portugal, although the tiled flooring is a potential slip hazard. Aside from this, guests were happy with the swimming pool area, shop, bar and restaurant facilities on site, whilst most preferred to wander the cobbled streets of Alvor in search of the finest seafood dishes.
