Bemposta Hotel – Alvor, Algarve

The idyllic coastal town of Alvor is located in the Algarve which is a popular tourist destination that stretches across the southernmost shoreline of Portugal and comprises year round sunshine, sandy beaches, rugged cliffs, natural lagoons and enchanting grottos.

The Alvor resort is a peaceful, tranquil destination that is not as heavily affected by tourism as other parts of the Algarve’s 150 kilometres of sun-drenched beaches. Boasting narrow winding streets, shops, bars, restaurants and live music, there is plenty to do in Alvor that does not directly involve the Algarve sun, sea and sand. Indeed, the resort is popular amongst families and couples, who can enjoy a pleasant stay at the three star Bemposta Hotel, which is also known as Club da Bemposta. Alvor is the Algarve at its most relaxed and beautiful.

Location

Alvor is situated 4 kilometres away from the commercial town of Portimão and is approximately 3 kilometres away from the beaches of Praia da Rocha and Praia da Vau, which are popular amongst tourists in Portugal. Also nearby, Quinta da Rocha Nature Reserve makes for a perfect outdoors getaway and Faro Airport is roughly 50-60 minutes away by car.

Alvor experiences some of the best weather conditions in Portugal, with 3,000 hours of annual sunshine and summer temperatures topping 30 Celsius. Bemposta Hotel is located approximately 3 kilometres away from the Alvor resort and its four and a half miles of golden beach and sand dunes. Nevertheless, a taxi and bus service (some 250 metres away) operate from the Bemposta Hotel making the trip to the beach or main resort both short and free of hassle.

Rooms

The Bemposta Hotel features rooms that are designed and furnished with simplicity and ease of use in mind. Each single or double bed room features air conditioning, bathroom with a shower over the bath, mini-fridge, cooker, microwave, satellite television and a telephone.

Maid service operates several times throughout the week. Furthermore, a hairdryer and safety deposit box are available upon request. In short, as the Bemposta Hotel is situated in one of Portugal’s quieter resorts, it is of no surprise that the hotel provides guests with a relaxed and comfortable stay.

Facilities

The Bemposta Hotel offers a range of high quality services. These include a small supermarket, which is especially good news for self-catering tourists and those staying 2 weeks or more, maid service, laundry service, reception desk, a bar that is open into the small hours, television room and an á la carte restaurant.

Furthermore, public internet access is available and guests with hire cars will find it of great comfort that there is both a car park and garage facilities. Indeed, hiring a car whilst staying at the Bemposta Hotel would be extremely useful in order to avail themselves of the nearby resorts and their facilities. Finally, a childrens’ playground and swimming pool also feature in this quiet, uncomplicated hotel.

Things to do in Alvor

Alvor is famous for two things: its Mediterranean climate and its quiet, beautiful surroundings. Drenched in hours of unbroken sunshine, it should come as no surprise that Alvor’s beach is a hotbed of bronzing bodies (and red, for those fresh off the boat/plane!). Nevertheless, Alvor is also a popular destination for other activities, which include cycling, walking and golfing. Indeed, there are many top class golfing venues in Alvor and Portugal in general attracts golfers from all over the world.

Horse riding is also a popular activity in Alvor, as too are water adventures such as snorkelling, windsurfing, scuba diving, water-skiing and jet-skiing. Tourists can also avail of the 12th century cathedral and the Monchique Mountains. Because the Bemposta Hotel is several kilometres – or a brisk 30-40 minute walk – away from Alvor, it should be noted that there is the added advantage for tourists to be able to travel easily to neighbouring Portimão. Around the hotel itself, there is a mini market and a couple of restaurants. However, regular courtesy bus and taxi services are available to transport visitors from Bemposta into Alvor and beyond.

What have previous guests said?

Generally, the Bemposta Hotel in Portugal attracted very good reviews. However, one concern voiced by several guests was its distance from Alvor resort (3km). In most cases, these concerns were allayed by the taxi and bus services running nearby the hotel and the scenic walk to Alvor Beach was a thoroughly pleasant activity in itself for many guests. The Bemposta Hotel was typically described as clean, simple and pleasant. Furthermore, the staff were described as friendly and helpful.
