Alvormar Apartments – Alvor, Algarve
Alvor is an idyllic coastal town located in the Algarve, which runs along the southernmost area of Portugal and comprises stunning sandy beaches, rugged cliffs and year round sunshine.
The Alvor resort is one of the more tranquil destinations along the Algarve’s 150 kilometres of sun-drenched beaches and boasts narrow streets, live music, bars, restaurants and, of course, plenty of Mediterranean sun, sea and sand. A popular resort with families and couples, who can enjoy a pleasant stay at the three star Alvormar Hotel, Alvor is Portugal at its most relaxed and beautiful.
Location
Alvor is situated within 4 kilometres of the commercial town of Portimão and is also close to the beaches of Praia da Rocha and Praia da Vau, which are extremely popular amongst tourists in Portugal.
Quinta da Rocha Nature Reserve is also nearby and the Alvormar resort itself is some 65 kilometres from Faro Airport. Alvormar Hotel is located approximately 750 metres, or a casual 15-20 minute walk, away from Alvor’s long, sandy beach, next to which tourists will also discover a natural lagoon and pockets of small coves amongst the surrounding cliffs. Due to the compact nature of the resort, many bars and restaurants will be within walking distance of the beach and the Alvormar Apartments.
Rooms
The Alvormar Hotel consists of 50 one or two bedroom apartments, all of which include a bathroom, fully-equipped kitchen and air conditioning. The apartments also offer a direct dial phone, cable television, safety deposit box and microwave, and are generally considered spacious so there should be no problem accommodating small to medium sized parties.
Each apartment has a balcony or terrace, a number of which overlook the resort’s stunning sea view and are appropriately furnished. The rooms also have a tasteful, modern and understated décor, which accentuates the relaxed and pleasant ambiance of the Alvor resort. Furthermore, cleaning staff attend the rooms on a daily basis to maintain the hotel’s high standards. In summary, the Alvormar Apartments stand up well in comparison to the quality expected of other hotels across Portugal’s Algarve.
Facilities
The three star Alvormar Hotel, located just metres from the beach, boasts a bar, 24 hour reception, heated salt water swimming pool, childrens’ pool and playground. The Alvor apartment complex also comprises a snack bar, card room, games room, internet access, snooker and garden area. Guests need only take a minutes stroll from the hotel to find the nearest restaurant. Furthermore, shops, bars (including live music) and other restaurants can be found a little further down the narrow roads of this idyllic resort in Portugal. Indeed, the old town is only a 5-10 minute walk away from the hotel.
Things to do in the Alvormar Resort
Whilst there will not usually be a shortage of Mediterranean sun to enjoy in Alvor, perfecting tans is not the only activity available to guests of the Alvormar Hotel. Indeed, one of the most popular pastime pursuits in the resort is cycling – largely, no doubt, because of the fine weather and the flat, clear roads. Equally, the splendid scenery and fresh air of Portugal can be savoured by foot and there are plenty of interesting architectural sites to behold in amongst the Alvor villages.
The Algarve is also a very popular golfing destination and Alvor is no exception – amateur and professional golfers from all over the world are drawn to Alvor and its 30 high class golf courses. Tennis is also popular in this Algarve resort and quite a number of independent tennis courts can be found in the area, as too can horse riding grounds and tracks, which offer beginner lessons through to advanced training and racing.
Customer Feedback of the Alvormar Hotel
Generally, people who have visited the Alvormar Hotel in Portugal have been hugely impressed by its spacious rooms, friendly and hard-working staff and, perhaps unsurprisingly, its perfect location on the Algarve. Most guests are content with the distance to the beach, reporting walking distances between 5 and 20 minutes, and many were surprised by the lack of crowding at the hotel’s swimming pool.
Almost all guests praised the quality of the hotel apartments, particularly that of furnishings and the balcony retreats. Furthermore, the consensus amongst UK tourists appears to be that Alvor is a resort for couples, families and anybody else who does not crave a more energetic night scene. Whilst clubbing may not be on the menu, all feedback describes the Alvormar resort as an enjoyable, hospitable and entertaining destination.
