Altura resort is also close to Castro Marim, which has a range of luxury golf courses, and is just several kilometres away from the picturesque Roman town of Tavira. Furthermore, for nature lovers, the Ria Formosa Natural Park and Reserva Natural do Sapal de Castro Marim are also within reach, especially if travelling by hire car. The Praia Verde Suite Hotel is located in Praia Verde, some 500 metres away from the main resort and its restaurants, bars, shop and, of course, the beach.

Indeed, the resort is a favourite amongst walkers and cyclists who enjoy exploring the area. Golfers are also well accommodated in Altura, as they are across Portugal’s Algarve, which provides several fine golf courses.
The entertainment scene is very much low key, although evening entertainment is often provided in bars and Altura is renowned for the superb dishes on offer in local restaurants. While some guests will never want to leave the idyllic beach, there are other pursuits to be had nearby in the form of wind-surfing and fishing. In summary, Altura is very much about rest and relaxation but wider entertainment can be found in the neighbouring locations of Monte Gordo and Tavira.

I stayed there with my husband on a four day package. It was fantastic – the suites are beautiful, the breakfast is great, the hotel is pure luxury and it is situated in a fantastic natural environment. The beach is wonderful – as it is near a nature reserve, you don’t get bothered by the noise of power boats all day – its just beautiful and peaceful. I would recommend it to anyone wanting a blissful and peaceful holiday. The prices they charge for what you get is great value for money.
