Apartamentos Altura Mar – Altura

The Algarve is widely recognised as Portugal’s primary holiday resort region and with good reason. The region enjoys some of Europe’s most reliable weather, with long hot summers and mild, pleasant winters.
The Algarve’s location on the Mediterranean coast allows visitors to make use of aquatic sports and beach activities, whilst providing excellent scenery for the high number of Portugal’s golf courses that are located here. The history of the Algarve also gives the region its own unique character, and there are as many cultural sites here as there are activities. As well as having a variety of lively activities, the region also contains quieter resorts such as Altura, making it excellent for family holidays, or quiet breaks alone or for two.
Location
The Apartamentos Altura Mar, Altura offes a straightforward self-catering option for staying in the Algarve. There are bars and restaurants available immediately locally, meaning it is not difficult to find somewhere if you don’t always want to prepare food for yourself.
The village of Altura itself is located around 10 kilometres from Vila Real de Santo, and is around 14 kilometres from Tavira, if you want to explore the local area a little further. One of the most pleasant beaches in the Algarve is situated just 50 metres away. In terms of getting there and away, the Apartamentos Altura Mar Hotel is around 2 kilometres from the motorway network, and about 50km from Faro Airport.
Rooms
The building offers twelve apartments altogether, half with one bedroom, and half with two bedrooms, and is a relatively recent development, having been completed in 2001. All rooms offer individual air conditioning, a necessity in the Algarve.
Each room has its own bathroom, a sofa, cable television, and a balcony (or terrace if on the ground floor). Rooms are spread out across two floors, with access by steps. As well as standard cooking facilities (including toaster, oven, hob, kettle), there is a fridge with icebox, a dishwasher, a washing machine and iron plus ironing board. Bathrooms are equipped with a shower and bath tub. Those apartments with two bedrooms offer two single beds in the second bedroom rather than one double bed.
Facilities
These three star rated apartments are focussed on self-service, although there is a dedicated reception available. The reception is open from 9am to 6pm, Monday to Friday, with a number to call for key collection if arriving or leaving the Algarve out of hours.
You will find your own coffee machine and kettle in the apartment and nearby there are some of the most pleasant eateries in the Algarve. The rooms are cleaned three times per week; bedding is changed once each week, and fresh towels are provided twice a week. There are also washing facilities in each room. The village contains a bus stop which provides connections to neighbouring towns, allowing you to venture further without always needing a car.
Things to do near the Apartamentos Altura Mar
The primary attraction for these apartments is the beach, which is only a fifty metre walk away. As the sun in the Algarve can be quite intense, it is possible to hire beach furniture such as parasols or sun loungers on the beach. The Apartamentos Altura Mar Hotel is also within driving distance of several local golf courses, such as the Castro Marim (around 7 km away) and the Quinta da Ria (around 8.5 km away). The roman town of Tavira provides a picturesque excursion and is a short drive away. The Spanish border is little more than an hour away, so day trips within your holiday are possible.
What have guests said about the Apartamentos Altura Mar
One reviewer who is a regular traveller to the Algarve has stated that the Apartamentos Altura Mar is among the most convenient he has stayed in. He said that the vicinity to the beach was the best thing about the apartments, as he has stayed in others before that are also clean and comfortable, but that were too far to comfortably walk to the beach every day.
Another reviewer was impressed with the balance of holiday that the area had to offer. She noted that, although she chose the location to avoid a ‘noisier’ resort, the area had enough evidence of other holidaymakers to make her and her partner feel comfortable, and it was also reflected in the service at local restaurants.
