The Algarve is one of Europe’s top holiday destinations. This success is partly due to the exceptional climate. Then there are the many blue ribbon beaches, from picturesque little coves to endless golden shores. Inland there are the stunning Monchique mountains, traditional Portuguese villages and pine forests. For the sports minded visitor there are plenty of championship golf clubs, as well as tennis, hiking, deep-sea fishing, jet ski, water skiing, parasailing, yachting, dolphin safaris and scuba diving. Culture lovers can experience the local heritage of fishing villages, Roman ruins, Moorish architecture, city walls, cobbled streets and medieval churches dripping in gold, gilt and marble.

luxury algarve villasNot surprisingly the choice of luxury villas is extensive. These villas are exceptionally well appointed both inside and out. Décor is modern and to a high standard. The rooms are equipped to meet most needs.

For example, the typical lounge could include satellite TV, flat screen TV, a DVD player, Internet access, Wi-Fi and possibly even a Playstation. Furniture will be tasteful and smart. The kitchens are usually installed with dishwasher, microwave, oven, fridge, freezer, coffee machine and dining facilities. Various villas invariably have a utility area for the washing machine and tumble dryer. Air conditioning is common but may incur a small cost.

The majority of bedrooms are en suite. On average guests can expect to find in various villas bedroom furniture such as double/twin beds, satellite TV, flat screen TV, walk in wardrobe, bath with hand held shower, WC and a single washbasin. This being the continent, bidets are frequently provided. As well as the en suite there will be separate bathrooms and WC, to ensure no queuing for life’s essential tasks!

luxury algarve villasThe holiday homes in the Algarve are designed with outdoor living in mind. Private pools are taken as standard. Access is by steps or ladder. Pool depths run to around 2 metres at the deep end. Dimensions run to 10 or even 12 metres in length. Many can be heated electrically for an additional tariff payable locally.

Al fresco is very much part of the culture and various villas come with built in barbecues. The terrace will offer covered shade from the heat of the day, lush lawns and gardens, natural shade, garden furniture and sun loungers. The views are often breathtaking. A few villas offer a Jacuzzi or whirlpool to add to the fun.

Bars, restaurants and café are usually within walking distance or a short car trip. Self-caterers can stock up at the nearby supermarkets and travel times to the regional airport at Faro vary between 30 minutes to an hour. Bearing in mind the size of the Algarve and the long list of places to see, self-drive is considered essential.

Most luxury villas are situated beside upmarket holiday resorts. These provide optional extras such as room service, maid service, complimentary toiletries and baby-sitting. Many run airport shuttles. On site at these resorts will be a wide selection of sporting pursuits, for example golf, tennis, state-of-the-art gyms, spas, football, cycling and hiking. The resort also run children’s activities, such as football clubs or art classes.
