We first stayed at Villa Recife in 1977 and did not return to Albufeira until last month. We realised the Villa Recife was still there and booked it. On our arrival, we asked for the same room we had 32 years ago, we were told we could have it in 9 days (we had booked for 15).
We were duly given said room, the one with the balcony above the front door (look at the photo) and it was just as we remembered. We were delighted and felt like royalty.
The original room we were given was fantastic too overlooking the pool which closed at 18.30.
The staff were generally friendly with one exception, why do some people go into the hospitality business? ( You know who you are and should find a different career where you don't have to talk to the public).
The breakfast is basic, leave it and go to Merlin's across the road.Tell Pedro we said Hi.
I didn't know until we returned that they have a roof terrace- the information given on arrival is non-existant.
However, this is a very positive review and we greatly enjoyed our stay. The barman needs some new CDs(and a volume control) but his pina colada is second to none.
I would highly recommend this hotel, the position is ideal just outside the square and 5 minutes from the beach. It is also very good for your leg muscles walking up and down from the old town.Down the steps, there is a brilliant English second hand book shop. Also down the street is the Beach basket, one of the best restaurants in town. A Ruina on the Fisherman's Beach has historic fish soup.
Go to Bar Street and listen to Mario Miguel (you will be singing Sweet Caroline for months) and Jon Wells ( Bob Dylan meets the Waterboys-don't ask him to sing Lady in Red)
I wish we were still there....
