The Torre Velha in Portugal is a unique and cosy hotel situated within a quiet location near to Albufeira resort (a short taxi ride away.) It is 500 metres away from the nearest beach, and five km from Albufeira’s centre.
The Marina is also around three km away, and there’s a golf course 4 km away. The airport is 35 km away and easily accessible with taxi transfers. Within the hotel grounds there are the ruins of a 16th century tower, and in the bar area, the owners have displayed their own significant whisky collection – which gives an idea of the quirky and personal feel of the hotel. The Torre Velha is ideal for visitors to the Algarve looking for friendly accommodation in a quiet and relaxed environment. There is also public transport nearby for making excursions and trips – a bus stop just 200m away and taxis will collect from the hotel.

The rooms at the Torre Velha are simply decorated with comfortable but basic amenities. Each room has a private bathroom, a television and radio, a safe – available at a small charge – and a fan/heater.
The Torre Velha Albufeira has a small on-site restaurant which serves meals and snacks from breakfast through to dinner. There is an outdoor swimming pool with a sunbathing area alongside and loungers/parasols. Close to the hotel, guests will find tennis courts, water sport facilities and horse riding. For guests seeking to relax onsite, there’s a television area in the bar, and internet access in the lounge. A cash point and other essentials can also be found close by the hotel – including a supermarket, and local bars, cafes and restaurants. It’s worth noting, however, that the Torre Velha isn’t suitable for visitors with any mobility restrictions as it offers no lifts.

The Algarve is a highly popular tourist destination for many reasons – the amazing beaches and endless sun to start with, but also some great sports and leisure options to suit different ages and tastes. The Algarve golf courses are of course world class and many visitors flock to the region just to enjoy a few rounds of their favourite sport, but there are also lots of options for horse riding, biking, water sports, walking and court-based sports such as tennis or basketball.
The lively Algarve resort of Albufeira also has its well known ‘strip’ of clubs, shops, restaurants, bars and cafes to enjoy and there’s a lovely marina to walk around and enjoy food and drink. There are also lots of small villages and towns to visit near Albufeira and public transport is well linked up. Many of these attractions have lovely cultural sites such as churches, town halls and squares and other traditional architecture to enjoy, and of course the food in Portugal is lovely too – with delicious local specialities and international cuisines to enjoy in the Algarve hotspots.

One guest described the Torre Velha Albufeira as a ‘home from home’ and said it was comfortable and clean with plenty of hot water! She said the staff were helpful and friendly and that they did a great job of running the hotel and keeping everything clean and smart.
Another guest said that the location was very good, with everything they needed close by. He also said that he found the ground floor shower room really useful for freshening up, as his departure time was well after checkout, and it meant he could have a full day’s activity and end with a refreshing shower before heading off to catch his flight. One other guest said that the local restaurants were very good, with around six within just five minutes walking distance from the hotel. He also said that the hotel breakfast was good, with basic but good quality options on offer, and all of it fresh and tasty.
