Forte da Oura Hotel

With a fantastic location just a stone’s throw from sandy beaches and the popular Algarve resort of Albufeira, Forte da Oura Hotel offers holiday makers the luxury of hotel services combined with the independence of self-catered apartments.
Built in 1996, the four-star complex was given a top-to-toe revamp in 2003 and offers spick and span, spacious accommodation in 115 apartments across four storeys. Of these, 97 are twin rooms and 18 are junior suites. Sunseekers on an Algarve holiday at the Forte da Oura Hotel will be in seventh heaven – not only does the complex boast its own pool and childrens’ pool, but it also lies within just 600 metres downhill walk from the stunning Praia da Oura beach. The complex is also just 350 metres from the centre of Albufeira’s ‘New Town’ with its shops and conveniences, and a 10-minute leisurely stroll from the famous Strip with its bars, restaurants and nightclubs.
The Complex
The complex itself boasts an impressive list of facilities and services, including 24-hour reception, two lifts, a lobby lounge with TV, the spacious outdoor pool and smaller childrens’ pool, a small, well-stocked supermarket, bar, a-la-carte restaurant, English-style pub and sun terrace with sun loungers and parasols. Free onsite parking is available to guests at the Forte da Oura Hotel. A play area is available for younger members of the family, whilst keen golfers will no doubt appreciate the fact that the complex is just a couple of kilometres from a golf course that enjoys wonderful Algarve views. Sporty types can make use of tennis and volleyball facilities, whilst the nearby beaches offer plenty of opportunity for fishing and watersports.
Room Facilities
The apartments are spacious, well-appointed with neutral décor and modern furnishings, and some enjoy wonderful sea views. All apartments are air conditoned and offer a separate lounge/dining area, bathroom with bathtub, air conditioning, kitchenette, a safety deposit box, TV and furnished balcony. The kitchenettes are well-equipped and give guests the option of cooking for themselves, making use of the two cooking rings, microwave, fridge, kettle and toaster. A daily maid service ensures the rooms are kept in tip-top condition throughout guests’ stay.
Location
Holidaymakers arriving in Portugal for an Algarve break at Forte da Oura Hotel will probably arrive at Faro Airport, which lies 35 kilometres from the apartment complex and is easily reached by public transport or hire car. Although most guests come to the Algarve for a sun-kissed break, the Forte da Oura also attracts travellers on a business break who appreciate the on-site conference room and other business facilities such as the public internet terminal.
The family-friendly complex is perfect for those who want a relaxing holiday in the sun, but the close proximity to the lively Albufeira Strip means party animals and night owls won’t be disappointed either. Those who choose not to dine at the on-site restaurant will find no end of options at the Strip – from traditional Algarve cuisine to Mexican, Chinese and Italian eateries. The Strip is also lined with any number of bars and pubs, and is heaving with holiday makers throughout the summer season.
Surroundings
Those looking for a taste of old Portugal will find it in Albufeira’s historic centre – this fishing town is split between the ‘Old Town’ with its pleasant cobbled town square, narrow, winding streets and traditional bars and restaurants, and the ‘New Town’ with its modern conveniences and modern bars and eating spots. Bars tend to stay open late, especially during peak season, and there are a handful of nightclubs too – of which Kiss Discoteque is the most famous.
The Forte da Oura Hotel is also ideal for guests who want to make the most of the majestic Algarve scenery. Whilst the hotel lies on the beautiful coast, with its endless sandy beaches and striking rocky cliffs, just a few miles inland lie rolling green hills, and picture-perfect Algarve towns and villages filled with whitewashed walls and terracotta roofs. Olive groves, orange and almond trees dot the landscape, and locals relax with a glass of wine and plate of fresh fish at local restaurants.
Other Activities
The diverse Algarve terrain is perfect for walkers and hikers, and bicycle hire is a great option for guests who want to explore the beaches, hills and valleys that surround Albufeira. Car hire, which can be arranged at the airport, is popular with guests who want to head further afield and take long drives along the beautiful Algarve coast with its clear seas, sandy beaches and scenic fishing villages.
Other Peoples’ Opinions
The hotel’s great facilities, high standard of accommodation and excellent location have made a huge hit with holiday makers in the Algarve, with many former guests giving the complex top marks on TripAdvisor.com and HolidayWatchdog.com. One happy customer commented: “I have never been compelled to write a review before but having just returned from staying at the Forte da Oura (18th to 25th October 2008), and having had such a great experience I wanted to recommend this accommodation to others.”
