The Alagoa Mar hotel is a modern apartment complex that was completely renovated in 2003.

Not surprisingly, it is a highly popular choice for families and couples booking cheap holidays in Albufeira because of its convenient central location, and is suitable for all types of Albufeira holidays including family-orientated holidays, or getaways for couples.

Location

The Alagoa Mar hotel provides Albufeira holidays right in the centre of the town. It is located about 1km or a 15 minute walk from the beach and about the same distance from the ’strip’ – which is the entertainment district of Albufeira. It is also close to the Old Town and its plethora of shops, restaurants and cafes. Public transport runs from outside the hotel and there is also a mini train that stops at sites all around the town and beyond.

Hotel Facilities

The facilities at the Alagoa Mar hotel are quite limited when compared to what you would receive on other cheap holidays to Albufeira. This isn’t a problem though because the location of the hotel means that there are plenty of eateries, bars and entertainment venues close by.

Saying that, people spending their Albufeira holidays at the hotel can enjoy the bar and restaurant, the large and very clean swimming pool, the sun terrace with adequate loungers and parasols, a games room and snooker and billiards tables. The hotel also offers a 24 hour manned reception, a hotel safe, lifts to all floors, an internet terminal and a very handy luggage room. There is also a free cark park for hire cars and a garage that you pay a little extra for. Just outside the hotel there are two small supermarkets for those who prefer to eat in during their cheap holidays in Albufeira.

There is very little in the way of evening entertainment at this Albufeira holidays hotel and the children’s entertainment is lacking as well. The proximity of the hotel to the Albufeira strip though means that it is a 10-15 minute walk to find some family entertainment and many of the bars cater for children up to 11pm each night.

Room Facilities

There are 63 apartments set on 5 floors at this Albufeira holidays hotel. The apartments are modern and quite spacious with good sized balconies or terraces. Reviews often mention their cleanliness and the fact that they are well equipped for families. Most of the apartments have a double bedroom and a living area that can also be made into a second bedroom by use of a double sofa bed. They also have a nice en-suite bathroom with a bath and shower above. There is a daily maid service and clean towels 3-4 times a week.

Other facilities include a direct dial telephone, Satellite TV, air conditioning and central heating plus the balcony or terrace. They also have a fully equipped kitchenette with a fridge and cooking facilities. People spending their Albufeira holidays at the Alagoa Mar hotel have very few complaints, although some of the balconies do overlook the main road outside the hotel and one of the busiest traffic islands in Portugal.

Bars and Restaurants

As with most hotels offering cheap holidays in Albufeira, the Alagoa Mar hotel does have its own bar area and restaurant. These serve food and drinks at set times of the day and previous guests have said that the food is good and the restaurant has a pleasant atmosphere. Other options include cooking in the apartments – which is great for budget Albufeira holidays – and the wide range of restaurants and cafes located close by in the town. More traditional restaurants can be found a bit further away in Albufeira’s Old Town.

Overall Assessment

Because of the central town location of the Alagoa Mar hotel it doesn’t offer the wide range of facilities and entertainment options that many Albufeira holidays do. This isn’t a problem for most people though as the main ’strip’ is close by with its various entertainment venues and eateries. The hotel does have plenty of facilities of its own though and it is easy to lounge by the pool all day before walking into the town during the evening. The beach is also quite close by and is easy to get to on foot.

The Alagoa Mar hotel is suitable for all types of Albufeira holidays including family-orientated holidays. This is because it is close to the centre of town and its facilities but far enough away so that it isn’t noisy at night. The apartments offer basic cooking facilities for families and everything else that they might need during their stay.
